MUNICH — April 28th, 2021 Leading German VFX studio TRIXTER has emerged triumphantly with the Special Jury Prize at this year’s Bavarian Film Prize Awards. The prize recognizes TRIXTER for their groundbreaking animation & VFX work on the 2020 hit The Kangaroo Chronicles, produced by X-Filme and co-produced by TRIXTER; based on the novel by Marc-Uwe Kling.
The Bavarian Film Prize is widely regarded as the most prestigious German film-industry accolade, second only to the German Film Prize. CEO & Executive Producer Christian Sommer as well as Animation Supervisor Claudius Urban accepted the award on behalf of the entire team in a pre-recorded message on the evening of April 28th. This is not the first time that TRIXTER has intersected with this prestigious prize, having previously contributed heavily to Jim Button & Lukas Der Lokomotivführer, which received the prize for Best Visual Effects in 2019.
“I would like to thank the jury for recognising the outstanding achievements of our team.” Sommer states. “Along with the fantastic X-Filme crew, we’ve shown yet again that Germany can be a top player in the global VFX industry ”
Urban adds, “I’m super happy that TRIXTER received this award on behalf of the entire kangaroo team; I am constantly impressed by everyone’s remarkable talent and commitment. Well-deserved, Team Kangaroo!!”
The production was funded by numerous high-level German organizations, namely FFF Bayern, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, MDM Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, ZDF, and Filmförderungsanstalt.
The Kangaroo Chronicles has received a wide array of awards for its portrayal of a walking, talking, human-like kangaroo. In April 2020, the team at TRIXTER took home the prestigious Lola award from the German Film Prize for their innovative work on this film, as well as scoring a nomination for a 2021 VES Award in the category “Outstanding Animated Character in a Photoreal Feature”. A follow-up, called The Kangaroo Conspiracy, is currently in production with a speculative release date in 2022.
TRIXTER creates dazzling concept art and award-winning visual effects for television & feature films. From ultra-realistic CG creatures to immersive environments and electrifying effects, they work not only with big-name clients such as Marvel and Disney, but also frontrunner German productions like X Filme.
